We have legislation being sponsored this year! Senate Bill 177
Check it our here http://le.utah.gov/~2015/bills/static/SB0177.html
What an exciting year to be a hygienist! We have bill sponsors in the House and Senate for proposed Direct Access Legislation. We are pursuing legislative changes that will allow vulnerable and undeserved citizens of the state of Utah to have Direct Access to dental hygiene treatment by allowing hygienists to provide services in alternate settings.
Currently 37 states allow Direct Access in at least one alternate setting besides the traditional dental office. Help us make Utah the 38th!!
While it is our wish that everyone will want to be a member by seeing what organized dental hygiene is doing for our profession, membership is not required to let your voice be heard and make an important contribution to your profession. We will have prepared talking points for you to use, if you would like to speak with a legislator.
The morning will start in the Hall of Governors (1st floor) with a presentation on advocacy by our lobbyist Ryan Peterson. We will cover the It will cover the political process, how the vote works and the House vs. the Senate as it relates to your profession and the dental hygiene practice act. Additionally, a Salt Lake Community College Instructor Staci Stout, RDH BS will be speaking on the history of dental hygiene and alternative areas of practice available. You will need to sign-in here by 8 AM to be eligible for the free CE.
Following that, we will sit in on committee meetings until we are introduced in the House and Senate. After that, we will use page slips to request our legislators come out and visit briefly with us, this is when you use the talking points sheet and ask for their vote. We will be providing “I Support Access to Care” lapel pins for all legislators that commit their vote to our bill. But wear purple so we all stand out!
After you talk to your legislators (Representative and Senator), we ask you jot down a few notes regarding your conversations with them. When that is completed you will receive your CE certificate for 2 CEUs.
